Yesterday, I had the pleasure of a brief exchange with Daniel Gregory, Grandson of the patron of William Wurster’s Gregory Farmhouse. Dan is now the Editor in Chief at Houseplans.com, and the creator of “Eye on Design by Dan Gregory.” He sent me links to several house plans that fit the Farmhouse Modern theme from their 1000’s of plans available on line.
Here are a few of my favorites.

This was sent to me by Just Fine Designs. I am a sucker for a cool modern chicken coop, even now that I know they don’t stay this clean for long…

I dug around a little more online last night trying to find the address of the Gregory Farmhouse in Santa Cruz. I was very impressed by how thoroughly the location is hidden from admirers, and remembered a story about the surprising number of architectural students and fans who trespassed on Falling Water, the great Frank Lloyd Wright house in Pennsylvania. Instead of a visit to the home, we can satisfy ourselves with a very illuminating paper written by Daniel Gregory, the grandson of the original owner and available at eScholarship.com.

There is a very moving, outdoor party scene in the movie “Because of Winn Dixie” where a modest yard is decorated with string lights and candles.
Every year when the weather begins to warm I think of trying to recreate that festive, moody experience in out yard by stringing lights between the trees and across the trellis.
Here are this year’s lighting candidates:

Cafe String lights from Pottery Barn

Fisherman Lantern String from Pottery Barn

Globe lights from Napa Style.

David Salmela, a Minnesota architect is best known as the architectural lead on the Jackson Meadow project, a development packed with great Farmhouse Modern homes.

This is a bit more modern than farmhouse, but we used the Milano Vanity in the powder room and it looks great.
