Barn door hardware is showing up in all types of projects these days. People use them for wide, interior doors instead of dual pocket doors because they add architectural interest to the sides of a cased opening when the doors are open. Sliding doors are also used for exterior doors to create an indoor-outdoor feel.
I am putting one into a bathroom as an alternative to hinges for a pair of shutters over a french casement window. They add a little bit of visual interest and can be detailed in a variety of ways to suit different design styles.
Richards-Wilcox sells a wide range of barn door hardware. You can download their catalog from there site here.
