How do you meld a big country kitchen plan with your own contemporary tastes? Designers Sherry Venokur and Claudia Febres worked with homeowners Brad and Deidre Wiener to combine the wide open spaces of a farmhouse kitchen with concrete counters, stainless steel accents and bright windows for a modern and functional space that is the heart of their new home in Campbell Hall, New York.
Some of the elements featured in Home Magazine (http://www.pointclickhome.com/kitchens_baths/articles/nouveau_country) include a large work and dining island that anchors the U-shaped space and provides much-needed storage out of sight. Chocolate-brown Poggenpohl cabinets and custom appliance panels unify the spaces and give the kitchen the sleek contemporary look the Wieners love.
Other secrets of this modern country kitchen include 9 inch deep toe kicks for more ergonomic work spaces which make the cabinets look like they?re floating, generous 30 inch deep countertops and stainless steel accents for cabinet and appliance hardware.
