I am not sure why, but I just love these old Sears homes.
I suspect that they are the early 1900’s version of the colonial saltboxes in New England, and the neo-classical revival farmhouses in the Midwest. They are etched in our minds as iconic homes. This is what home is supposed to look like.
For me, this is the key to Farmhouse Modern; combining the warm, historical forms that are so rich in our collective memory, with clean, open and light detailing and floorplans suited to our current lifestyle.

I am pretty sure that this was the base for a house that I lived in (and renovated) in Palo Alto. It was a great old house.
