John Harrison Jones Architect has designed an award-winning farmhouse in Fisherville, Tennessee, that combines a modern aesthetic with a regional agricultural forms and materials. Shed roofs, cedar siding and galvanized metal exteriors provide a surprisingly contemporary look that respects the agrarian countryside of middle Tennessee.
The Levit Farmhouse, built for a family of four who run their own 72 acre organic farm, incorporates sustainable design principals that include a south shed roof, positioned for passive solar heating in the winter and deep shade for the summer. The north roof is angled up to support solar hot water and photovoltaic panels. A geothermal HVAC system , with a wood-stove backup round out the sustainable design features.
